Shift @ The Crosby

Last night, Santa Ana's latest bar/lounge phenomenon, The Crosby, was a packed house. Why? Two words. DJ Rhettmatic.

In case your memory is a bit rusty, The World Famous Beat Junkies are one of the most important DJ crews of the 90s to set the precedent for turntablism. They contributed to both the standardization and evolution of different scratching techniques and other elements of the practice. The Beat Junkies, consisting of Rhettmatic, DJ D-styles, J Rocc, DJ Babu, Icy Ice, and DJ Shortkut, among many others have revolutionized the practice of sound manipulation on the 1's and 2's

DJ Rhettmatic did a great set, and although slightly inebriated, I was fortunate enough to get a few words in with Rhettmatic, which proved to be very encouraging to a young, aspiring DJ such as myself.

So if you too would like to catch Rhettmatic spin, along with L.A.'s Plann B (also dope), be sure to get yourself to the Crosby every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursday for Shift. For more information, visit The Crosby's website.
